Go Nader, Go!

Maybe I am one of the few people in this country who are actually excited about Nader running for president this year. Kerry and Edwards don't really excite me and Bush just pisses me off. I'm especially pissed off at Bush since he publicly came out for a constitutional amendment defining marriage as a relationship between a man and a women. -- Yes, I know that Nader isn't a huge fan of gay marriage, but that isn't my point.

Kerry, Edwards, and Bush don't necessarily represent what is in the best interest of the people of this country. They represent what is in the best interest of the bottom line. Yes, in some ways the bottom line does benefit the American people. But there are many instances where a quick buck in the short term comes back us to haunt us in the future. The environment, health care, taxes, and Social Security are just a few examples. No one wants to either raise the cap on social security taxes or raise the age of social security. What ever happened to the possibility of earning a living wage and therefore being able to save for your own retirement. The fact that we all want the cheapest product available, so we shop at Walmart doesn't help. I know that I am degressing here, but I feel that sometimes we must sacrifice in the short term in order to gain in the long term. So, higher wages and hinger prices might hurt at first, but in the long run we will be BETTER OFF for it.

So, I am pretty excited about Nader running for President is a good thing. Even though he might not win, he will bring up some issues that the country needs to discuss.

dear shawn,

you have no clue how the world of politics works. nader being in this race does nothing but take votes away from people who would normally vote democrat. argue this if you want, but no one is going to say "i wasn't going to vote at all, but now that nader is in the race...". congrats for voting ol' bush back into the white house.

i hope you're not voting for him because of some crazy notion that you are helping to get a major third party in our system. there is no chance of that happening right now, especially with nader. he is no longer backed by the green party, so those votes are gone. if he gets less that 5% of the vote (which he didn't get last election, when he had the green vote), then there will still be no more government funding for a third party.

here's to 4 more years of war and christianity. everyone can thank nader for doing his part to keep the GOP on top. nice to see you don't care.

Your view is rather idealistic and it frightens me in a way. The goal of each and every American should be to figure out how to get Mr. Bush out of office not to splinter the opposition vote. You bring out points that are not necessarily on the money. One that stands out is the statement that the people running are only interested in the bottom line. I think that is misguided. When you are dealing with anything large group, bottom line does come into play. You cannot have a policy that is good for all the people. 100% immpossible! Therefore a person must strike a balanace in his political policies.

You mention that Nader will "will bring up some issues that the country needs to discuss". He will bring them up , but they will be ignored. He will not be part of any of the debates. The issues that are hot with him generally are not the issues on the minds of the bulk of americans. Not saying what he feels is invalid or not important, but they are not what needs to be resolved now in the minds of most americans.

I think that Scott is kinda correct. You don't totally understand how polictics work but a very small idealistic understanding. With people sharing your views and ideology, we will be treated to another 4 years of Bush/Cheney. If that happens, I don't thhnk I would want to be known as a Nader backer.

I make no secret of changing my mind on one or two important issues....I've never thought it a virtue to adopt a position and try to get famous as a person who defends that position, like a purveyor of a brand name, like you're selling cornflakes. by free online texas holdem

Socrates thought that if all our misfortunes were laid in one common heap, whence every one must take an equal portion, most persons would be contented to take their own and depart. by texas hold'em
