Well, the Cincinnati Youth Summit went off without a hitch! It was a huge success with over 80 attendees (excluding panel members and staff)! It was a long day, arriving at UC aroun 8am and then leaving at 10pm. I am very happy that I was able to play a small roll in this great event. I really look up to those who led the project and dedicated so much of their time to the summit.
The GSA panel which I was part of went well. There were many people from U of D in the audience. It seems like NKU is a little bit ahead of the other alliances because we have been around for about 6 years. Some of the other alliances are starting up some very interesting projects. I really need to get on the ball to setup a meeting of all of the college GSAs in the area. I believe that will help each school reach out and be more effective because we can learn lessions from each other.
The religion panel went even better then I expected. Most of the panel was comfortable working together, so they played off of one another. The audience asked some very interesting and direct questions which the panel responded brilliantly to. Chris seemed a little disinterested though... I need to send out thank you cards to each of the panel members for taking the time out of their schedules to come to the summit.
The dance was interesting... I think that 4 hours was a bit too much. It was odd to have both high school and college students there. I really don't fit in with the high school crowd (actually, I did not even fit in with them when I WAS in high school), but the older college crowd doesn't seem to accept me either. That kind of left me off to the side for the most part. For a while I was being stalked by a 16 year old, but he decided to find someone else to hound. I mean, come on... I am 22 and he is 16. That is not like legal at all! :)
Overall, I very excited that I was able to be a part of the summit. I think that those who skipped out from NKU really missed out. Now I am off to bed so I can catch up on some of my lost sleep! Hopefully I will have some time to go over the video footage from the summit tomorrow. I am a little concerned about the sound/quality, but it will have to wait until I get some sleep.
Just finished a meeting with the new Director of Health, Counseling, and Testing about the Safe Zone program at NKU. The meeting went well and we generated some awesome ideas. We are going to modify the Safe Zone program in the following ways:
- Annual renewals
- Open the program up to students in the dorms as well as staff/faculty
- Give a packet to each participant with guidelines on what to do when a students comes to them with problems/questions
- Post a list of participants on the Safe Zone website
- Allow students, faculty, and staff to apply via a web form (still requires a signature)
- Add "sponsored by" links at the bottom of the stickers
- Add a line to the agreement asking that participants do not allow copying of their stickers
Sounds like a very good start to me!
This morning, I woke up at the crack of dawn (6am) so that I could take part in a publicity stunt for the Cincinnati Youth Summit (website). I was with Kathy, Mindy, Dan, & Andy.
We stood on Fountain Square behind the windows in the studios. You could see us with the banner between the news reporters. We event were interviewed by the weather man! Kevin recorded part of the interview and I digitized it. I have uploaded two versions (broadband, modem), both require Quicktime 5 to view. I know that the freeze frame for 5 seconds is a bit long. Maybe I will change it later. Let me know what you think... shawn@eblend.org
Well, I am still sick... But I am feeling better. Right now i am back at NKU instead of K&E's house. Patrick is asleep and i am thinking about going to sleep. I did not do too much today, but Elyse and i went to a cool Vegie place downtown for lunch.
I took Patrick out to Amol's for dinner. He seems pretty crushed about the break-up. In reality, he was dumped. I know that he will feel better about this later, but I still feel really bad for him. He is just soo sad now.
Well, i am off to sleeping on the floor tonight! Sux to be me.
Brad did not call today... Wonder what is up with that.
Hmm... it seems that Brad isn't talk to me that much. Not that I blame him because I have been kind of out of it. It isn't that I am avoiding him at all. GRRR, still have to finish up my computer programming project. Even without much work, my life hasn't slowed down a bit! Grr
