Index of Evil

Check out Warblogging.com's Index of Evil.

The time has come for a new metric of how this nation is faring. We have plenty of financial metrics -- the Dow Jones Industrial Average, for instance, or the Standard & Poor 500. Politically and militarily, however, we have few ways of measuring the health of our nation without polling. And so it's with great pleasure that the people behind War Blogging bring you the Index of Evil -- a measure of how much people are thinking about those truly Evil Ones who infest our world.

The Index of Evil is arrived at by measuring the number of times certain people's names are mentioned on weblogs in a given day. The total number of mentions for those people is that day's Index of Evil. The Index of Evil has four components -- the Ashcroft Index, the bin-Laden Index, the Hussein Index and the Mullah Omar Index.

Iraq, the next state?

Could Iraq become the fifty-first state if we go to way. This article discusses some interesting possible outcomes of the way. This is a somewhat scary idea.

There are also some interesting articles at Mother Jones magazine. Check it out!

New pictures (New Orleans / Pittsburgh)

I finally uploaded my pictures from New Orleans and Pittsburgh.

The New Orleans pictures are from the Southwestern Social Science Annual Meeting in March, 2002. I presented a paper entitled The Impossible Task: Terrorism With Respect to Public Administration. For some odd reason, I even won third place in the undergraduate paper panel!

The Pittsburgh pictures are from my trip this summer (end of August) with Deb and Jordan. We went up there to see Falling Water and to shop at Ikea. Falling Water was absolutely beautiful and the furniture at Ikea was awesome.

Eventually, I will add a photo comment system and make them look more like my main site. But, I have school work and consulting projects to do first!

Tube Strike in london

Well, according to the BBC, a strike is bringing the Tube to a standstill. This is only a strike that will last until 8pm on Weds, but service will likely be disrupted until Thursday morning. It is amazing to think that such a huge part of the city would be shut down!

I just can't imagine trying to get around London without the tube. When I was there last summer, the only time that I used a taxi was when we went out partying into the wee hours of the morning.

Big frik'in spider

This scary creature lives outside in the backyard. Let's just say that I will not be sitting outside to read anytime soon. You can see more pictures of the sexy spider if ya like.

Four Feathers

This afternoon, I went to AMC with Jean and we saw Four Feathers. I really had no clue what the movie was about before we saw it. It was EXCELLENT! The film was beautiful, the sound track was wonderful! It was just great overall. I won't tell the story here, but I would recommend it.

Software Design Process -- Correctly!

Here is an article entitled, They Write the Right Stuff. It details the software design process that the NASA's on-board shuttle group goes through to write and design the software that controls the space shuttle. It is fairly interesting becuase they spend over 1/3 of their time writing the plan for their software. It is more about the process then about the code. Can you imagine what OS X or Windows XP would look like if they wrote software like this?

AIDs Walk 2002

AIDs Walk: Team NKU

Well, everyone made the entire 5 mile AIDs Walk this morning. You can view my pictures here. Overall it was a great time. I did get attacked by a water of lemon flavored Powerade, but a quick shower fixed that problem. In total, NKU raised almost $300. Maybe me can do even better next year. It was a beautiful day for such a walk.

New Zealand Dog Food Ads

Hmm, these are hilarious. If they would run these in the US. It would make reading DogFancy a lot more interesting.

Conservative Commentator Unexpected Gay-Rights Advocate

Bill O'Reilly defends gay adoption! This is a welcome semi-suprise. Maybe this will make some other people come out and take a stance. It is very sad to think that some christian conservatives believe that it is better for a child to be stuck in a foster home then in the home of a loving and caring homosexual couple. It seems like their priorities are not Straight.

Gays and the priesthood

Gays should not be priests, Vatican offical says

This article is horribly sad because it just seems to blame the recent molestation scandal in the Roman Catholic church on gay priests. I am not going to even address homosexuality and religion, but it is sad that gay priests are being used as a scapegoat when most of the men that molest children are in fact not gay. They are straight!

Maybe we will actually come to a point in our society when sexuality does not matter. But for now, I guess we all have to live with the depressing reality where who you fall in love with can result in descfimination, job loss, pain, and even death.

Tired...

Well, let's just say that Calc II isn't going as well as I have been hoping. That might have something to do with the fact that I really haven't been doing my homework!

Last night was pretty awesome. I did not get home until about 1am! We the entire time just talking. It is really nice to connect to someone like this. The question is: Was last night a date or not??? I am kind of hoping that it was and that it will continue. Well, not really kind of hoping. Really hoping! ;)

Calendar Updated!

I've finally updated my calendar. Now, every time that I update my calendar, it will automatically update on the web. For now, this link is on Apple's .Mac server, but eventually, I will install webDAV on this server so that it can live here.

You can view my calendar by clicking here. This calendar menu option has been updated. You can now subscribe to my calendar if you are using iCal from Apple. So far it is pretty cool except for the fact that you cannot publish mutiple calendars to the same page.
