Guidelines for learning

I was reading kottke.org and found a post that focused on learning guidelines.

1. Release the need to be right.
2. Welcome one another's thoughts and opinions.
3. Suspend judgment.
4. Listen for understanding, not rebuttal.
5. Make personal statements by using "I" rather than "you".
6. Clarify first what was said before you challenge someone.
7. Take time to reflect.
8. Lean into discomfort.
9. Respond first to what was said before making your point.
10. Have fun.

Even though these are pretty simple, it is amazing how much we don't follow them. I feel that if I put them to practice in my own life, things would be extremely different. I'd be more successful and create an environment with less hostility.

No Panther Today

Yes, I know that I now sound like a teeny girl at an NSYNC concert, but that is really the reality of the computer nerd life. Instead of lusting after some rock star (or maybe in addition to), we lust after technology. We just can't wait to get our hands on the latest and greatest items that our favorite computer companies have to offer.

I know that I shouldn't bitch or complain, but I haven't received my copy of Panther yet. Apple shipped me a copy last Thursday, but I want it now! People are starting to post about how sexy it is and how it will just bring out the raw power of my 17" PowerBook. Apparently it also is being about world peace and even makes your sex life better.

On another note, Apple has posted a marketing/promo video on Panther. It is actually quite sexy.

I'll post my results as soon as I receive my copy of Panther. My system is all backed-up and ready for an upgrade. I'm also waiting for Phil to get off his lazy butt and update UserSpace Pro! -- Just kidding Phil.
